FAQs

Why is my hair so dry, even when I use hair creams and oils?

If you are experiencing dry hair, it may be because you need more moisture in your hair. Try using the sealing method to trap in the moisture. The method involves putting leave-in conditioner on your hair followed by oil/cream to seal in moisture. The Coco Shea collection offers this benefit.

Why does my hair always seem not to grow past a certain length?

Hair grows about 1/4 to 1/2 inch every month, there is no reason your hair should stop growing at a certain length, if you are healthy. If you don't have any health issues, you should expect to grow your hair with a healthy hair care routine. Set your hair goal for 3 to 6 inches of hair growth a year!

Why is my hair breaking and losing volume?

There are any number of reasons why your hair can break - unnecessary shedding, including your health, the clothes you wear (beware of wool sweaters) to name a few. Assuming all is well and you are still having breakage -- you may need more moisture in your hair.

Why is my scalp dry, what should I do?

Taking care of your scalp is the most important part of your hair growing success. You need to keep it clean and clear of any product build-up. If you have dry scalp, try deep conditioning with extra virgin coconut oil before you wash your hair. You should see immediate benefits -- less flaking and shinier hair. Also try Coco Shea Butter Cream Smoothie as scalp cream. For intense scalp therapy try our new Formula B * Scalp Therapy

When should I apply face moisturizer/cream?

Use moisturizer right after you wash your face. According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), the best time to apply moisturizer is when your skin is damp as this can help lock in hydration. Use your face cream before your skin has dried post-cleansing.

Why should I use a cleanser with Alpha-Hydroxy Acids?

Products that contain Alpha-Hydroxy Acids (AHA) can help to boost your skin’s radiance, improve its texture, and help refine your pores. AHAs are naturally derived ingredients that help your skin look brighter and clearer. A good cleanser will kick-start your regime and ensure your skin is clarified before you follow up with serums, moisturizers, and makeup.

Is a cleanser or cleansing cream better than soap?

Since the skin on your face is much thinner, it needs gentle care. Both will clean your face but there are differences in the way they do it. Soap is harsher while a cleanser is more moisturizing and hydrating than your typical soap. Cleansers are proven to be gentler than face washes and soaps.

Why should I use a cleanser?

A facial cleanser removes impurities from your skin so it stays fresh. Facial cleansers play an important role in your skincare routine. Face washes are designed to remove impurities, germs, dirt and makeup that can irritate the skin.

What is Retinol?

It is good for softening wrinkles and fighting acne. It is good for its wrinkle-fighting, complexion-perfecting abilities, it’s a derivative of vitamin A. In study after study, retinol has been shown to build collagen, decrease fine lines, improve skin texture, and fight acne.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

It is for serious moisture. This tiny molecule helps lubricate joints and keep skin plump, and is one of the world's finest humectants, or molecules that attract and retain water. Along with hydrating the skin and preventing dehydration, hyaluronic acid provides an environment that keeps wrinkles away.

Can you use Retinol & Hyaluronic acid together?

Retinol and hyaluronic acid actually have a synergistic effect. They can be combined so that the benefits of retinol can be achieved more easily.

What is self-compassion?

Self-compassion involves acting the same way towards yourself when you are having a difficult time, fail, or notice something you don’t like about yourself. Instead of just ignoring your pain with a “stiff upper lip” mentality, you stop to tell yourself “this is really difficult right now,” how can I comfort and care for myself in this moment?

What is self-care?

By the World Health Organization's definition, self-care means taking all the steps you can to take care of your physical health and well-being, including hygiene, nutrition, managing stressors, and seeking medical care if needed. Categories of self-care include emotional, physical, and spiritual.
